McCormick Family Farming History

1949

Grandpa Jim McCormick and his brothers purchased the home farm. They began raising Angus cattle in addition to farming crops.

1955

Grandpa became one of the first in the county to put up harvester silos, and began finishing his cattle with fermented feed after raising them on pasture. The fermented feed provided more nutrient uptake and digestible feed for the cattle.

1980

Kevin McCormick, son of Grandpa Jim, joined his dad in the family farming business and became partners in 1984.

2005

Connor McCormick, son of Kevin and the third generation of the McCormick Family, began farming with his grandfather and dad at the age of 12. He continued helping every summer until moving home after college to work on the farm full-time.

2016

Connor's love for the land and farming continued to grow, as he focused in on beginning his own cow herd by purchasing his first three heifers. His herd quickly grew through retaining his favorite calves and buying a few cows each year from local farmers.

With his background in environmental science, he began learning more about the importance of soil health in maintaining the land for future generations. He became one of the first in his community to utilize cover crops, a forgotten farming concept, to improve the nutrients in the soil and provide healthy grazing for his cows.

2024

When Connor married his wife, Emily, in 2024, together they sought to expand upon the farming legacy built by Grandpa Jim, concentrating in on raising grass-fed and grass-finished cattle. McCormick Cattle Crossing parallels the transition from crossing from modern agriculture back to the way cattle were originally raised.

2026

As our family continues to grow, we hope to create our own legacy to pass on to our children, as we seek to help our community become healthier and holier!
